Cecil Harvey
Name: Cecil Harvey
Japanese name: セシル・ハーヴィ (Seshiru Hāvi)
Hails from: Final Fantasy IV, though it's unclear where in the story he's picked up
Fighting type: Style Maker / Split Soul
Seiyuu/Voice Actor: Shizuma Hodoshima / Yuri Lowenthal
Manliness level: 2/10 (two words: PURPLE LIPSTICK. His Dark Knight form cannot save him here.)
Story
Everyone's favorite paladin is back and as gay as ever ready for battle. Except apparently that whole Mt. Ordeals thing in FFIV didn't happen, because now he can flip back and forth with his dark knight form at the touch of a button. Way to make a huge part of his characterization vaporize, Square... Most of Cecil's story revolves around his issues with his brother and whether or not he can trust him, which anyone who played FFIV could have seen coming miles away.
Thoughts
I'm not big on Cecil, but I'm not opposed to him either. I had a lot of trouble using him initially because I couldn't get the hang of his form-switching, but it got easier in time. Just... why did he have to be so utterly unmanly, Square? This guy has a wife and kid back home and you give him purple lipstick?! (Actually, what does it say about the other heroes that this is the only married guy...?) I definitely prefer him in the English version — he deserved some respect and a manlier voice than his high voice in the Japanese game.
Gameplay
Using Cecil means mastering how he flips between forms, and as such makes you pay strict attention to where he is in the field — his land and air abilities change with the job he currently has. I'm still not very good at using him, so mostly I try and land a hit with his HP attacks. On the flip side, he's not a terribly difficult opponent so long as your dodging abilities are up to the task.
