Squall Leonhart

Squall Name: Squall Leonhart
Japanese name: スコール・レオンハート (Sukōru Reonhāto)
Also known as: Leon
Hails from: Final Fantasy VIII, in which he only needs one belt to hold his pants up. (He still has more, of course.)
Fighting type: Combo Master / Relentless Revolver
Seiyuu/Voice Actor: Hideo Ishikawa / Doug Erholtz
Manliness level: 6/10 (he looks like a total dork in his SeeD uniform, plus the pitfalls of being designed by Nomura)

Story

Poor Squall. All he ever wanted was to be left the hell alone, and what did they do? Stick him with Cheery One and Cheery Two. It works, though, and Bartz and Zidane help Squall out of his endless interior monologue and help him find what really matters. After he nearly gets molested by Ultimecia, that is.

Thoughts

I really thought they would have stuck Squall with Cloud for maximum angst potential (and for the Cloud/Squall fans), but it was a much better move to stick him with the characters least like him. It worked with Rinoa, after all. And though I have to wonder why he needs three belts to hold his pants up (*coughNOMURAcough*), his coolness meter is up pretty high if you're into pretty boys. At the same time, he looks adorably ridiculous in his SeeD uniform.

Gameplay

Squall's easy to get the hang of, and the fact that he's powerful doesn't hurt. Chaining his attacks is also fairly easy, but he's a short-range fighter above all else. That's what you should focus on in fighting him, because otherwise he will fairly quickly beat your face to a pulp. (Figuratively. Of course no one ever gets hurt outside of their HP.) At least his EX Burst is easy to perform (and so nostalgic).
