Zidane Tribal

Zidane Name: Zidane Tribal
Japanese name: ジタン・トライバル (Jitan Toraibaru)
Name pronunciation: Zi-dahn, not Zi-dayne. Yeah, I'm still not used to that either.
Hails from: Final Fantasy IX, the forgotten fantasy.
Fighting type: Air Master / Aerial Ace
Seiyuu/Voice Actor: Romi Paku / Bryce Papenbrook
Manliness level: 6/10 (Nomura makes him look older, but not more manly)

Story

Paired with Bartz, Zidane proposes a race to find their crystals. Of course, it is anything but straightforward, what with Bartz finding a trick crystal and disappearing, and Zidane later separated from Bartz and Squall. Eventually he faces off against Kuja once and for all.

Thoughts

FFIX is one of the games I have yet to play, so much of Zidane's story was lost on me. I did enjoy his cheeriness as a complement to Bartz's, and his scene with Firion talking about princesses killed me. He's also one of the characters that took me a long time to get the hang of, but I have to say that once you do it's very rewarding.

Gameplay

Using Zidane well requires you to learn how his attacks work. He's very much an aerial fighter, so keeping him on the ground just does him no good. A few of his attacks take you into the chase sequence, so it's a good idea to whack your opponent around, then follow and do some more before hitting them with a good HP attack. Fighting Zidane can be quite difficult, though: he's fast and if you can't evade or block his attacks, you're doomed.
