Story
If Warrior of Light is the epitome of heroism, then Garland is the same for villainy. As the only villain fought twice in story mode, Garland faces the noble Warrior of Light to keep him from getting his crystal and remain in the wheel of fate; past that he has little personality past standard villain traits. He does get some fascinating development via the Cosmos and Chaos Reports that explain how he came to be, at least.
Thoughts
I found Garland mildly interesting throughout the story (the guy needs to get back on his wheel of time instead of talking about it so much), but that changed after I got to read his backstory. Gameplay-wise, he's an easy opponent for me, which is good because I usually play as Warrior of Light.
Gameplay
Fighting Garland is mostly a matter of avoiding his sword swings. When he attacks, he does it big, leaving him wide open. Garland's very slow, though, so if you're quick he should be little trouble. Just watch out for his EX Mode.
